Child Ejected onto Highway in Crash, Sustains Serious Injuries

Graham, NC – This past Friday the 13th will seem doubly unlucky for a North Carolina woman and her son after their Chevy Blazer was rear-ended by a GMC truck while traveling on NC 87 in that State of North Carolina Friday evening. Both were rushed to hospital with serious injuries from the auto accident.

According to North Carolina Highway Patrol, the driver of a Ford Taurus traveling south along NC 87 had slowed to affect a left-hand turn onto Preacher Holmes Road, in Graham. A woman, her son and one other passenger were following, and had slowed for the Taurus. That’s when the driver of a southbound GMC truck traveling at least the posted speed limit (55 MPH) directly behind the Blazer, slammed on his brakes and rear-ended the Blazer at a high rate of speed—at least 45 or 50 miles per hour, according to officials at the scene.

Serious Injuries in the Auto Accident

The force of the impact ejected the child from the Blazer onto the highway, just as the Blazer was forced into the path of a northbound Mitsubishi.

The child and his mother, both of whom were “very seriously injured,” were airlifted to hospital. One other passenger in the Blazer with less-serious injuries was taken to hospital, as were the occupants of the Mitsubishi. It is not known if the child in the Chevrolet Blazer was wearing a seat belt at the time he was ejected from the vehicle.

Charges are pending against the driver of the GMC truck, who allegedly was not paying attention.
